These estimates are based on real project quotations, active mural jobs, and field experience within Nigeria’s commercial and creative mural industry.

Simple / Graphic Murals — ₦1,500 – ₦2,500 per sq ft

For example a Small indoor wall might be around: 6 × 4 ft = 24 sq ft
While a Large outdoor wall could be : 80+ sq ft

Why Nigerian Clients Push Back on Mural Pricing (And What to Know Before You Quote)

From inquiries we have received from clients in Benin, Lagos, and across the South-South, price objection is common,  even at ₦1,000 per sq ft, which is on the lower end of professional mural pricing.

Here is what is usually happening:

1. Budget not matching taste

A client may want a hyper-realistic portrait mural but have a budget built for a simple graphic design. Both are valid, but they are different products. 

Knowing your budget before you reach out helps the artist match the right style to what you can actually invest.

2. They don't know what execution actually costs

A mural is not just paint on a wall. It is concept development, surface preparation, multiple layers, colour mixing, detailing, weatherproofing for outdoor work, and days or nights of skilled labour.

 The materials are almost secondary. What you are paying for is the artist's ability to execute the design at the quality level you want. As we say:

it is not about the cost of materials,  it is about how good the artist can deliver and the kind of design you want.

3. Cheaper quotes exist in their DMs

Yes. There are artists who will do it for less. Some will deliver well. Many will not. The risk is yours. A poorly executed mural on a commercial wall costs you more in reputation and repainting than the original savings were worth.

4. Out-of-city logistics feel like a surcharge

When a client outside Yenagoa asks "are you based here?" and we say no, the conversation sometimes ends there.

What Materials We Actually Use

Most articles about mural pricing mention "quality materials" without explaining what that means in the Nigerian market. Here is what we actually use on our projects:

Satin paint: used for underpainting and base coats. It is cleanable, durable, and holds well on most wall surfaces, which is why it is our go-to for the foundation layer.

Hydraulic (acrylic additive): applied to outdoor surfaces. This creates a barrier that prevents staining and protects the mural from rain and humidity over time. For outdoor murals, this step is non-negotiable.

Colour toners:  used for mixing custom shades directly on site, giving us flexibility to match any brief without being limited to off-the-shelf colours.

Branded acrylic paints:  used specifically for detailed work. We use pre-mixed professional acrylics for fine detailing rather than mixing, to ensure colour accuracy and consistency across the full wall surface.

For outdoor murals, skipping the weatherproofing step to save cost is the number one reason murals fade or peel within a year. It is always included in our outdoor project quotes.

Typical Timelines

  • Small murals: 1–3 days
  • Medium to large murals: Above 3 -- 14 days (or more, weather can also affect the timing for outdoor murals)

What We've Learned from Real Mural Projects at Beo Art Studio

From our experience painting murals for homes, restaurants, gyms, and offices across Nigeria, here is what the numbers actually look like in practice, not estimates, but real lessons from real jobs.

Our first big project: what undercharging looks like

Our earliest large commercial mural was at Silhouette Fitness Centre in Yenagoa, branded logos and lettering across gym walls, 6 nights of work. At the time we charged ₦320,000 for the workmanship. That felt significant for a first big project.

Looking back, at the wall coverage involved, that works out to roughly ₦700 per sq ft,  below our own current minimum for that level of technical work. Today, that same job would cost a million naira or more. Not because our materials changed, but because we now understand what that kind of precision work actually demands.

The lesson: eye-gauging a wall and charging based on gut feel is how artists undercharge. We now measure every wall and price per square foot based on design complexity. That system protects both the artist and the client.

What we charge now

We generally start at ₦1500 per sq ft for moderately detailed indoor designs. Premium and hyper-realistic work, or large outdoor projects, goes above ₦10,000 per sq ft.

For jobs outside our base in Yenagoa, Benin, Lagos, or anywhere requiring travel,  transportation and accommodation costs are factored separately, outside the per sq ft margin. This is not a hidden fee. It is the real cost of getting the artist and materials to your location safely.
