A family portrait in Nigeria typically costs ₦200,000–₦1,000,000+ depending on the number of subjects, canvas size, and medium. The more people in the portrait, the larger the canvas needed to do justice to each face.
How subject count affects pricing
A two-person (couple) portrait at 20"×24" starts at ₦140,000 in pencil. For a family of four or five, the canvas needs to be at least 24"×30" or 30"×36" to maintain detail across every face. At 30"×36", pencil is ₦180,000 and oil is ₦230,000. For larger families or full group portraits (6+ people), 3ft×4ft is the minimum recommended size — pencil at ₦400,000+, oil at ₦600,000 +.
Can everyone be photographed separately?
Yes. If the whole family has never gathered in one place for a photo, we can work from separate individual photos and compose the portrait artistically. This is common for memorial family portraits where a deceased grandparent is included, or for families spread across different cities.
What occasions do families commission portraits for?
Housewarming gifts for a new family home. A parents' 25th or 30th wedding anniversary. A tribute portrait featuring grandparents who have passed. Naming ceremonies for first children. And simply — the desire to have the family on the wall, together, permanently.
How long does a family portrait take?
Larger compositions with multiple subjects take longer. A standard family pencil portrait (3–5 people at 24"×30") takes 10–14 days. Oil paintings with 4+ people at 30"×36" or larger take 14–21 days.
